Golf History

Fairmount is home to a scenic 18-hole championship golf course stretching 6,741 yards from the back tees and playing to a par of 72. Originally designed by golf course architect Hal C. Purdy in 1958, the course has since benefited from recent enhancements led by Robert McNeil of The Northeast Golf Company. 

Over the years, Fairmount has hosted numerous New Jersey PGA and NJSGA championships, as well as U.S. Open qualifiers, a testament to the quality and challenge of the course. In 2024, the Club completed an extensive renovation that included the reconstruction of 63 bunkers and three tee boxes. 

Signature Holes

Featured Hole - #5  

A compelling risk and reward par 4, the fifth demands strategy and precision. Mature trees frame the left side of the fairway, placing a premium on a well-positioned tee shot and rewarding those who find the ideal angle into the green. From there, players navigate a prominent tree guarding the right side of the approach, which can quickly turn an aggressive play into a test of recovery and finesse.

The elevated green sits dramatically above a picturesque pond and features a deceptive false front that will repel any approach lacking conviction. Misses beyond the putting surface offer little relief, with native fescue waiting to complicate the recovery. 

Featured Hole - #11 

The eleventh is a beautifully framed par 5 that presents a genuine scoring opportunity while asking players to make one of the round’s most consequential decisions. After a well-placed tee shot, those with the distance and favorable conditions may challenge the green in two, but the attempt demands a confident carry across the water to a putting surface defended by bunkers on either side.

A generous bailout area to the right offers a more measured route, while a carefully positioned layup leaves a direct approach across the pond. The water, sculpted contours and striking green complex create a memorable setting, but it is the variety of strategic options that defines the hole. Whether played boldly or with patience, the eleventh rewards commitment, precise execution and thoughtful course management.
